• Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched the ‘National Medical Register Portal’ in New Delhi for the registration of all MBBS doctors eligible for registration in India.
• This portal will be a comprehensive and dynamic database for all registered allopathic doctors.
• The initiative aligns with the vision of making India’s health ecosystem digitally robust.
• The National Medical Register aims to strengthen the digital healthcare ecosystem and ensure quality healthcare.
• A similar register will be launched for paramedics and other healthcare professionals.
•  The National Medical Commission will maintain the register electronically, including details like name, address, and qualifications of licensed doctors.

• The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the continuation of three umbrella schemes under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) merged into an integrated Central Sector Scheme called ‘Vigyan Dhara’.
• The primary objective of the ‘Science Stream’ is to promote science and technology capacity building, research, innovation and technology development.

• A Tamil Nadu-based start-up launched India’s first reusable hybrid rocket, “RHUMI 1”.
• The launch took place from a mobile platform in Thiruvidandhai, Chennai.
• The rocket aims to advance research on global warming and climate change.
• RHUMI 1 is powered by a hybrid motor and has an electrically triggered parachute deployer.
• It carried three CUBE satellites to monitor cosmic radiation, UV radiation, and air quality.
• It also deployed 50 Pico satellites to study accelerometer readings, altitude, and ozone levels to understand environmental dynamics better.

• NASA launched the Tanager-1 satellite to track methane emissions.
• The satellite was launched using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
• It was developed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and other partners.
• The mission aims to detect major carbon dioxide and methane emissions.
• It focuses on monitoring greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming.

Tamil Nadu-based startup Space Zone India launched India’s first reusable hybrid rocket, mission RHUMI-2024, on a mobile platform from the TTDC grounds at Thiruvidandhai, East Coast Road, Chennai. The rocket has been developed by Chennai-based startup Space Zone India in collaboration with Martin Group.

• Diana Pundole, a teacher and mother from Pune won the national championship in the saloon category at the MRF Indian National Car Racing Championship 2024 in Chennai.
• Her victory is an inspiration for aspiring female racers. She balanced numerous challenges, including family life, to achieve this success.
• Her win highlights her determination and breaks barriers in the male-dominated motorsport industry.

• India recently won the silver medal in the Maruhaba Cup, a prestigious team event, at the Asian Surfing Championship 2024 held at Thulusdhoo, Maldives.
• The Indian team of Kamali P, Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D and Sanjay Selvamani performed impressively throughout the competition.
• However, in the final, Japan won the gold medal with a dominant score of 58.40.

• Former cricketer and chief selector Farooq Ahmed has replaced Nazmul Hasan Papon as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
• The current president had resigned in the wake of political unrest in the country.
• The BCB held an emergency meeting during which 58-year-old Ahmed was selected.

• The Tribal Health Resource Centre in BR Hills, Karnataka, launched Kaanu, a South Indian Adivasi Knowledge Centre, on August 25.
• “Kaanu” means “evergreen forest” in Kannada and Soliga.
• Kaanu aims to be the first knowledge center dedicated to the past, present, and culture of South Indian Adivasi communities.
• It will have three branches: a library, an annotated bibliography, and a co-written book. The Kaanu Library will be inaugurated, and the bibliography will be available online in September.
• This initiative was started by Adivasi leaders, scholars, and researchers with long-term connections to these communities.

• In an important decision, the Union Home Minister has announced the creation of five new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
• The central government has decided to create five new districts in Ladakh namely Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra and Changthang.
• At present there are only two districts in Ladakh – Leh and Kargil.
• Both districts have their own autonomous district councils which govern them.
• After the formation of new districts, Ladakh will have a total of seven districts.

• Maharashtra has become the first state to offer Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) to its employees.
• The move by the Eknath Shinde-led government comes a day after the Centre announced UPS for employees who joined the service after January 1, 2004.
• Earlier, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this decision would benefit 23 lakh central government employees.
