G7 was established in 1975.
Russia was included in the G8 when it was created in the late 1990s, but it was suspended in 2014 after the annexation of Crimea.
2. Where was the first post-expansion BRICS Ministerial Meeting held? – Russia
Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates formally became new members of BRICS on January 1, 2024.
Recently, the first ministerial meeting after the expansion of BRICS was held in Russia.

3. After whom has the International Astronomical Union named a crater on Mars ? – Professor Devendra Lal
Recently, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) has named three new craters located within the Tharsis volcanic region on Mars after India’s science community and Indian places.
The largest crater has been named “Lal Crater” in honour of Professor Devendra Lal.
The Mursan Crater is named after the Mursan town in Uttar Pradesh, India, while the Hilsa Crater is named after the Hilsa town in Bihar, India.

The World Bank has recently released the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) in collaboration with S&P Global Market Intelligence.
The CPPI is based on a comprehensive dataset of 405 ports around the world, the largest dataset ever compiled.

5. NASA is collaborating with which IIT in India to research multidrug-resistant pathogens ? – IIT Madras
Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) are researching multidrug-resistant pathogens on the International Space Station (ISS).
The collaborative effort between IIT Madras and NASA’s JPL will advance scientific knowledge and promote international partnerships.

The 8th Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX-24) has commenced in Yokosuka, Japan.
Hosted by the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), it features the Indian Navy’s INS Shivalik and JMSDF’s JS Yugiri.
The exercise includes harbour and sea phases, focusing on naval interaction and warfighting skills, aiming to enhance interoperability and strengthen defense ties between Japan and India.

7. Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary , recently seen in news, is located in which state? – Madhya Pradesh
The Madhya Pradesh government has prepared the Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary to become a new cheetah habitat.
Teams from Kenya and South Africa assessed the site, and prey animals were relocated from other tiger reserves.
Eight Namibian cheetahs were released at Kuno National Park in 2022, followed by 12 more from South Africa in 2023.
The Chief Minister directed a study on introducing rhinos and other rare animals to the state.

Pema Khandu took oath as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the third consecutive time.
He was recently elected leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party Legislative Party.

Along with Khandu, 10 other ministers also took oath.
9. Mukhyamantri Nijut Moina Yojana has been launched by which state government? – Assam
The Assam state government has launched the Mukhyamantri Nijut Moina Yojana.
The scheme was announced in the State Budget 2023 – 24.
Under this scheme, financial assistance will be given to girl students from 11 to PG.
Objective – To empower the girl child as well as prevent child marriage.

The United Nations General Assembly has declared 2025 the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.
This decision, made on June 7, 2024, aims to raise public awareness, encourage youth involvement, and support quantum science applications.
The year marks the centenary of Werner Heisenberg’s foundational quantum mechanics paper.
Additionally, 2025 is designated for cooperatives, peace and trust, and glacier preservation, while 2024 celebrates camelids.
11. What is India’s rank in the Global Gender Gap Index 2024 ? – 129
The World Economic Forum (WEF) has recently presented the Global Gender Gap Index 2024 report.
Compared to last year, India has slipped two places this year to 129th position.
Iceland, which has been at the top position for the last decade, has retained its first position this year as well.
Among India’s neighbouring countries, Bangladesh (99), Nepal (111), Sri Lanka (125) and Bhutan (124) are ranked ahead of India.

13. Which monitoring system has been launched by the Indian Army recently? – Vidyut rakshak
Recently, the Vice Chief of the Indian Army, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, launched a monitoring system called ‘Vidyut Rakshak’.
This monitoring system has been jointly developed by the Indian Army and IIT Delhibased Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT).
‘Vidyut Rakshak’ is a system that enables tracking, security and control through Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
