The new criminal laws were passed by the Lok Sabha on December 20 and by the Rajya Sabha on December 21 after which the President gave assent to them on December 25.
The three new criminal laws are the Indian Code of Justice 2023, the Indian Civil Defence Code 2023 and the Indian Evidence Act 2023.
The Indian Code of Justice (IPC) – 2023 – will replace the Indian Penal Code (1860), the Indian Civil Defence Code 2023 – the Code of Criminal Procedure (1898), the Indian Evidence Act 2023 – the Indian Evidence Act (1872).
