Third Summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC)

Third Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) Summit was held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea on May 22, 2023. It was co-chaired by Indian and Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister and attended by 14 Pacific Island Countries (PICS).

  • India announced to set up
    1. Convention Center in Palau.
    2. Waste management project in Nauru.
    3. Seeds for cyclone-affected farmers in Fiji
    4. Solar light project in Kiribati
  • Sustainable Coastal and Ocean Research Institute (SCORI) was established at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji.
  • India also unveiled a 12-point development program according to which India will establish a super-specialty cardiology hospital in Fiji, introduce dialysis units and sea ambulances in all 14 PICs, and establish Jan Aushadhi Centres to provide affordable medicines.

  • Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) is a multinational grouping formed in 2014 for cooperation between India and 14 Pacific Islands nations which include Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
  • The Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) was launched during Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi’s visit to Fiji in November 2014.
