Operation ‘Karuna’

• In May 2023, Government of India has launched “Operation Karuna” to assist Myanmar which has been devastated by Cyclone Mocha.

Key Highlights

• Three Indian Navy ships carrying emergency food items, tents, essential medicines, water pumps.
  Disaster Relief (HADR) materials brought by INS
• More than 40 tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Shivalik, INS Kamorta and INS Savitri handed over to Mynamar government.
• Cyclone Mocha made landfall in Myanmar on 14 May 2023 as a category 4 tropical cyclone, bringing winds of up to 250 km/h, heavy rains, storm surges, flash floods, and landslides.
