The Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (on October 21, 2022) gave its nod to Terai Elephant Reserve (TER), Spread over 3000 sq km. in Dudhawa-Pilibhit region in Uttar Pradesh.
- TER will conserve four wild species- Tiger, Asian Elephant, Swamp deer and one horned rhinoceros in entire landscape.
- Project Elephant: The GoI introduced Project Elephant in 1992 as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) with the objective to protect elephants, their habitats & corridors.
- Karnataka has highest number of elephants followed by Assam & Kerala (Elephant census 2017).
